Description

The Glenlivet 14 Year Cognac Cask Selection is one of the more unusual expressions in the Glenlivet range — matured for 14 years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks to develop the distillery’s characteristic fruit and vanilla character, then finished for a minimum of six months in ex-Cognac casks from the Charentes region, adding a distinctly French oak influence to the Speyside single malt base.

The Cognac cask finish is genuinely transformative at the Glenlivet’s flavour profile level. Cognac casks carry residual Eaux-de-vie influence — grape-derived spirit with floral and stone fruit character — which interacts with the existing vanilla and floral Glenlivet spirit to produce a richer, more exotic nose and palate than the standard 12-year. The result is a Speyside single malt that rewards drinkers who appreciate the crossover between whisky and fine French spirits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Cognac cask finish make it taste like Cognac?

No — the finish adds a grape-derived floral and stone fruit influence rather than making it taste like Cognac directly. It enriches and exoticizes the existing Glenlivet fruit and vanilla character rather than replacing it.

How does the 14 Year Cognac Cask compare to the Glenlivet 12?

The 12-year is lighter, more floral, and uses American and European oak without any cask finish. The 14-year Cognac Cask is richer and more complex from two additional years of maturation and the French oak finish influence.
